Here's a summary of our wedding at Wedderburn Castle.
Most people arrived late afternoon on Friday for drinks
before dinner. The after dinner activities ranged from arguing over people
cheating at Triv, to Uno and Snooker.
Some guests arrived after dinner on Friday and some, thanks
to awful traffic, didn't arrive at all!
Some people didn't get to bed until 7am (although he tells me
he was sleeping on the sofa rather than still partying!).
Saturday morning was free for our guests to enjoy as they
please. We had arranged a clay pigeon shoot for those who fancied the
crisp Scottish air. There were lots of papers for those that didn't!
Unfortunately, no one thought to collect the scorecards from
the shooting but Adam won and Claire came second! They hadn't been
practising but clearly everyone else had a hangover!!
After lunch it was time for everyone to get ready for the
ceremony. A champagne reception was held in the drawing room with Ste,
Adam's best man, before the reception. Ste then led couples through to the
morning room, which adjoined the ballroom where they were greeted by Adam and
Claire before having their picture taken by Simon, our photographer.
We had a civil ceremony, taken by the local registrar,
Margaret Dick. The service was tailored by us and we were able to insert
our own vows - these were actually chosen on Thursday night so well done to
Margaret for getting it sorted!
We had a string quartet play before and after the ceremony.
See our acknowledgements page for their details.
Our friend, Sue gave a reading from Winnie The Pooh before we
led our guests out - and back to the bar!
The next hour was spent with everyone being ordered
around by Simon, our photographer, who managed to get a number of group
shots done without too much hassle. Dinner was held in
the large dining room at the castle with all the family round one table and our
friends grouped on 2 other tables. The food for the whole weekend was
absolutely delicious! After a pre-dinner toast, everyone
settled into getting to know their fellow guests and generally having a good
time. After dinner came the speeches. Chris, Claire's dad, thanked
everyone for coming and Adam toasted practically the whole table!
Next up was Ste, the best man. He made a moving speech about his
friendship with Adam before Tony, Adam's dad stood up to welcome Claire into the
family. Despite telling people in advance that there would be a free floor
for other speeches, no one had the nerve to! After coffee was
served in the dining room with the wedding cakes, the ceilidh started - a good
hour late! The first dance was originally inclusive of all guests so no
one was allowed to stand at the back with the camera. We stripped the
willow twice before the Thistle Dubh Ceilidh Band took us through our paces on a
number of other dances. A disco followed the ceilidh and we
ended the evening with Auld Lang Syne where we both got squashed (and pinched!)
in the middle by all the guests! |
